openthetimekpop's most oppressed ship who only have each other, hence the title 😢🥀⛓🖤🪦. but seriously, there's like theories that they're being separated by wakeone and i'm gonna weigh in (also mostly so i can archive this and look back to see what the hell was going on in retrospect). (last update: 10th september 2024)
summary:
people believe that hao and hanbin are being separated by the company and aren't allowed to interact in front of cameras/at events/on social media/etc all that much.
reasoning:
- during boys planet they were extremely clingy, non-stop holding hands and may as well have been confessing their love to each other or something like jfc (also when hanbin called hao the other half of his soul like 3 times predebut but now says nothing similar)
- hanbin saying during a fansign that he has lots of selfies with hao but he can't post them for some reason
- hanbin pointing out that there's cameras watching them on 2 separate occasions (1. when they were in jeju filming for camp zerobaseone, hao wanted hanbin to pour a drink in his mouth but hanbin was like "they are there" and hao was like "who???" 2. when they were being filmed walking into idol radio, hao had his hand all up in hanbin's sleeve like he was holding on to hanbin's naked ass arm LMAO and hanbin visibly mouthed "camera" to him as well as putting his own hand on hao's to get him to stop. what i'm getting from both these instances is that hao is the winner of the idgaf war).
- haobin winning a best chemistry duo poll, the prize being a spread and article dedicated to them in forbes magazine but then the preview of this shows that they used an ot9 zb1 teaser pic where they're literally on opposite sides of the group, not even next to each other. this isn't usually the case as, for example, an ot-whatever exo pic wasn't used when sehun won a poll like this for forbes magazine and instead he got a solo pic shown. some believe that wakeone has to approve of pics being used, meaning they didn't send in a haobin pic that forbes could use. (EDIT: i'm CTFU idol champ said that there's no official image of hanbin and hao together (which is actually true, there isn't one released by wakeone) so that's why they used an ot9 pic..... a bit hilarious innit)
- the most haobin content we ever got post-finale was on the 17th september fancall when a bunch of haobinists got in and let rip since the staff couldn't really intervene. after that, we have not got a single thing. in fact, selfies that hanbin took with every member but hao in england and poland got posted yesterday which makes it look more suspicious like you're telling me hanbin took a selfie with EVERY single member except HAO, the guy he says he has lots of selfies with and probably still takes lots of selfies with? well ok. that's interesting if it's truly the case but..
- as of 240910 (or 240908, when the fansign was) it has been confirmed by hanbin himself that there is a haobin ban, as he says to a fan that he wishes he could do a mukbang with hao, like the fan wants, "but.....". makes sense since since i made this (september 2023) we really haven't gotten much since like when content is made by wakeone, they're not really allowed on the same team for example

- during camp zerobaseone there were sasaengs following them, especially as this moment was literally caught on camera and released by one of them, so they could've been referring to sasaengs rather than wakeone staff
- they may be doing this on their own volition and to protect themselves from seeming too gay. people went crazy about them together, especially after the finale, and it's a little different from other kpop ships in that sense in a way that i can't really explain (but i do get it 100%)
- idk maybe it's just not that serious and people are overanalysing
my opinion:
i think it's a combination of both wakeone being way too 'overprotective' (not really, i don't think they actually care about gay people getting outed or whatever, they just don't want them perceived as gay because homophobia - possibly already shown by the kicking out of woongki after he went on hiatus shortly after being ratio'd on twitter because people made (gross) gay jokes about him) and hao and hanbin doing this on their own as they personally feel they must protect themselves. wakeone are very controlling as a company anyway in terms of content that's allowed to be posted by members or the groups/pairings they stay with when it comes to hotel rooms. on the second point, lots of the speculation about haobin is lowkey valid in the sense that it doesn't seem too reachy at times and both hao and hanbin have had genuine gay rumours about them predebut (hanbin due to his waacking background (side note, he has not waacked at all since debuting despite saying at a fansign it's the dance style he's most comfortable in hmm wonder why that is, is it possibly because it's too aligned with the lgbt community)/predebut videos in which he is extremely comfortable with women in a way i've never seen a male idol be - even the most glass closet cases - like it's giving the gay best friend stereotype, hao because, well we know and i'm not listing it, unless he was somehow the greatest ally of all time).
if wakeone themselves think that hao and hanbin will be outed as a couple through some dispatch article or whatever just by letting them look at each other on camera, they are sorely mistaken. kpop stans don't even think actual gay people are real. most of them ship as a joke, even the ones that seem 'serious' (not me though, i take everything serious like i've never had fun in my life). also, more legitimate 'proof', no one would bring up #that hao stuff just because he looked at hanbin - fans don't talk about it for a reason and i don't think actual gay things are that closely associated with what can be argued as fan service by the masses, ya know what i mean? plus, if they're not even dating at all then this just makes it more suspicious when it doesn't need to be like what are you hiding? nothing, so be calm. i know i just said i take everything seriously but it's TRULY not that serious.
other than the gay reasoning, i think wakeone could be doing this as they did get backlash from rosins/hao akgaes for haobin being pushed at the beginning through tiktoks and the youth in the shade concept trailer. i'm pretty sure the haobin asmr videos would have been planned around this time too, though they came out after haobin stopped being pushed by wakeone. however, i think this reasoning is stupid on wakeone's part because yeah, they don't have to be promoted as a duo, but they could at least show them chilling in casual content since we don't even get that much. also, they don't even promote hao like he's the centre anyway so i don't get why they personally would do it for this reason since they don't really seem to care that much outside of the bare minimum aka putting him in the centre during standing order (like, they've ignored always' existence this entire time so you would think if they did this haobin separation to push hao as centre more that they would acknowledge always and have him perform it or something).
also, i do think some haobinists are a bit much - like you know, not taking rps rules seriously by bringing stuff to their faces - so that could be a factor but there's not much to go off. interactions between them and haobinists don't seem too strained.
if wakeone keep this (speculated) separation up until the end of the contract that is both extremely impressive and extremely depressing.
